How it works

What is embroidery, exactly?

Your logo is stitched into the fabric with thread, not printed on top of it.

Machine embroidery reads a digital stitch file and sews the design into the garment, one colour at a time. There is no ink, no film and nothing sitting on the surface to crack or peel — the logo is part of the cloth.

What embroidery digitising is, and when it is charged

A logo file is not a stitch file. Embroidery digitising converts your artwork into instructions the machine can follow — stitch type, direction, density and the order the colours run in. Your logo stays yours; the stitch file we build from it is ours, and we keep it on record so you never pay to build the same one twice. One file runs across flat garments at the same logo size, so a polo and a jacket share it. Headwear is the exception — a curved, seamed front has to stitch centre-out and bottom-up, so caps get their own file. A much larger logo, like a back piece, is a new file too, because a bigger logo is not just the same stitching enlarged. A very different fabric can need its own as well — stitching dense enough for drill will not sit flat on a lightweight poplin.

What stitch count is, and why it sets the price

Embroidery is priced on stitch count, not on how big the logo looks. A simple left-chest mark might run a few thousand stitches; a detailed back piece runs many times that, and takes proportionally longer on the machine. We can only confirm the exact count after digitising, which is why any embroidery figure quoted off a logo file is an estimate until then.

Which artwork works well, and which does not

Vector files — .svg, .ai, .eps or .pdf — digitise best, and a clean high-resolution .png or .jpg is usually fine. Thread cannot hold fine gradients, photographs or text under about 5mm, so those get simplified or they turn into a muddy patch. If your logo is genuinely photographic, heat transfer is the better method and we will say so rather than stitch something that disappoints you.

Applique and embroidery for large logos

Applique sews a patch of fabric onto the garment rather than filling the whole shape with stitching, which suits large logos and keeps the garment lighter and the job cheaper than a solid fill. Embroidered patches are an alternative again: each badge is stitched separately and then attached, which is useful for jackets, caps and anywhere you want the same badge across different garment types.

Two ways to start

Ready to get your gear embroidered?

Most quotes go back the same business day. There is no obligation and no minimum order.

Or call 021 082 12843 — Mon–Fri 8:30am–5:30pm.

What happens next

  1. 1. You send rough numbers and what the team does.
  2. 2. We come back with garment options and a price per garment, decoration included, usually the same business day.
  3. 3. Once you go ahead, we confirm logo size and placement in writing before anything is stitched.

Why embroidery

What embroidery gives you that print does not

It is the finish most businesses want on a uniform they expect to keep for years. Thread outlasts the garment more often than not.

That is a measurable property, not a slogan. Polyester embroidery thread is specified for commercial washing — Madeira's Polyneon data sheet rates colourfastness 4–5 out of 5 for washing at 95°C under ISO 105-C04.

It survives the wash

Polyester embroidery thread handles commercial and industrial laundering. Nothing cracks, peels or fades off the way a surface print eventually does.

It reads as premium

Stitched logos have depth and texture. On a polo or a softshell they look considered rather than promotional, which matters when staff face customers.

The colour stays put

Thread colour is matched once and holds. The garment's dye cannot bleed into the thread, and the thread does not gradually fade, so the tenth reorder still matches the first.

It works on almost anything

Polos, work shirts, hoodies, caps, jackets, aprons, bags and hi-vis. If a needle can get to it, we can usually embroider it.

Is it the right fit

When embroidery is the right call

It is not the answer to everything, and we would rather tell you that now than after a run of 40 shirts.

Staff uniforms

Company embroidered clothing that your team wears daily — the case embroidery was made for.

Workwear and hi-vis

Embroidered workwear takes a beating on site and keeps its logo through it.

Teamwear and clubs

Names, numbers and crests, with reorders that match for new members.

Caps, bags and patches

Custom embroidered patches NZ-wide, plus headwear — caps and beanies are embroidery only here, and a curved crown is better stitched than pressed anyway.

Small runs

One shirt or two hundred. There is no minimum, though bigger runs price better per unit.

When it is not

Photographic logos, fine gradients, very large full-back artwork and tiny text all fight the medium. Ultra-light technical fabrics can pucker. In those cases heat transfer gives you a better result for less money, and we will point you at it rather than take the order.

If you are weighing the two, our guide to embroidery vs heat transfer sets them side by side, garment by garment.

The process

How an embroidery order actually runs

Five steps, and nothing goes on a machine until you have approved a proof.

  1. Step 1

    Send us the details

Your logo, roughly what garments you want and how many. Rough numbers are fine at this stage.

  2. Step 2

    We quote it

Garment options and a price per garment with the stitching included, usually back the same business day. Embroidery figures are estimates until the logo is digitised.

  3. Step 3

    Logo setup

We digitise your logo into a stitch file, confirm the exact stitch count, and keep your setup on record so reorders of the same gear skip the setup.

  4. Step 4

    Proof and placement

You approve a digital proof, and we confirm logo size and placement in writing. Nothing is stitched before that.

  5. Step 5

    Stitched and sent

We stitch the order here in Glenfield and courier it to you. Typically 5–21 working days from artwork approval.

Step one takes about two minutes. Send the logo and rough numbers.

What we embroider

Logo embroidery on shirts, polos, caps and hi-vis

Most orders start with a shirt and grow from there. Every one of these can be embroidered, and you can mix garment types across a single order.

Hi-vis is the one garment where placement is not a taste decision. Certified garments follow AS/NZS 4602.1:2011, which sets how much retroreflective banding a garment carries and where it sits, so a logo has to sit clear of that banding rather than across it. If certification matters on your site, confirm the requirement against the garment’s own certification before you order.

Where we work

Embroidery for Auckland, delivered NZ-wide

The machines are in Glenfield on the North Shore and everything is stitched there. We are a service-area business — there is no shop to visit and no walk-ins — so orders start online or over the phone.

Custom embroidery NZ-wide works exactly the same way: outside Auckland we decorate and courier. NZ embroidery is the same job with a longer courier leg — Christchurch, Wellington, Hamilton, Tauranga, Dunedin and everywhere between, and the South Island is no different.

Questions

Embroidery questions we get asked

If yours is not here, ask when you request a quote and you will get a straight answer.

What kind of embroidery work do you take on?

Most of it is uniform embroidery for Auckland businesses — staff polos, work shirts, hi-vis and hoodies, usually a left-chest logo. Alongside that: teamwear and club kit, custom embroidered workwear for trades, caps, aprons and bags, and personalised embroidery like staff names above a pocket. We are set up for repeat business rather than one-offs, but there is no minimum, so a single garment is fine too.

How much does embroidery cost?

Every job is quoted. Embroidery is priced on stitch count plus the garment, so a simple left-chest logo on a polo and a detailed back piece on a jacket are different numbers even at the same quantity. There is also a one-off setup when we build a stitch file for your logo; that setup stays on record, so reorders of the same gear skip it. Send us the logo and rough quantities and the quote usually comes back the same business day.

Is there a minimum order for embroidery?

No. We will embroider one shirt or two hundred. Larger runs get better per-unit pricing because the setup is spread further, but there is no minimum quantity and no obligation to reorder. A very small order does carry a handling charge, for the same reason the per-unit price moves: setting the machine up and running it takes much the same work for one garment as for fifty. The charge is on your quote before you commit to anything.

How long does an embroidery order take?

Typically 5–21 working days from artwork approval. Simple reorders where your setup is already on record and the garments are in stock sit at the fast end. A logo we have not set up yet, an unusual garment or anything we have to bring in specially sits at the slow end. If you need it faster than that, tell us at the quote stage rather than after — sometimes we can, often we cannot, and we would rather be straight with you.

Can I supply my own garments?

Yes. Send us your own stock and we will embroider it, or we supply the garments and decorate them in one go. If you are supplying, send one sample first where you can — fabric weight and stretch change how a design needs to be digitised, and it is better to find that out on a spare than on your whole run.

Do you do embroidered patches?

Yes — custom patches NZ-wide. They are stitched separately from the garment and then attached, which suits jackets, caps and anywhere you want one badge design across several garment types. They also work well when you want to move a badge between garments or keep a uniform item that gets replaced often.

Is there an embroidery shop I can walk into?

No. Unlike walk-in embroidery shops, we are a service-area business — the machines are in Glenfield on the North Shore and there is no counter. Orders start with a message or a phone call, artwork comes over email, and the finished gear is couriered to you anywhere in the country.

What happens when I need more for new staff?

Your setup and placement details stay on record, so a reorder is a message rather than a fresh setup. That is what lets the same gear run again with no setup to pay twice — same size, same spot as the first run. Your other garments run off the same stitch file where the logo size and fabric allow; caps and a much larger logo each need their own.

Send us your logo and we will quote the embroidery
